Prescribed/ Hazardous Waste
Prescribed Industrial Wastes (PIW) are specific chemical, hazardous or dangerous wastes that according to the law must be handled and disposed of in specific ways. Hazardous waste is mainly generated by industrial acti- vities. The amounts produced and their composition are largely driven by production patterns. Their impacts on the environment relate mainly to toxic contamination of soil, water, and air.
Atlas Waste can implement a cost-effective, environmentally sustainable solution for disposal of prescribed and hazardous waste. We can also help to minimise your volumes of prescribed waste, reducing not only the frequency of collections but also your storage and collection costs.
What is prescribed waste?
Hazardous industrial waste comes in many different types: solid and liquid, packaged or in bulk (skips, tanks). Each hazardous waste type has a unique method of disposal and is treated in accordance with regulations and in a socially and environmentally responsible manner. Prescribed waste can include hydrocarbon contaminated oils and sludges, flammable wastes such as paints and solvent, as well as acids and alkalis, oils and emulsions, cleaning products and laboratory wastes.
Before collection, these must be stored undercover and on designated, hard-surfaced storage areas to prevent spills. According to legislation, prescribed waste must only be collected by a transporter that is licensed by the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) to collect and transport such waste.
Leave it to the experts
Every business should be aware of what type of prescribed waste they generate. More importantly, they should make sure that the waste is properly stored, transferred, and disposed of properly to ensure the safety of all people and the environment. We are an Accredited Agent authorised by EPA Victoria to transport a number of waste categories. As an Accredited Agent we can act on behalf of the producer and complete part of a waste transport certificate and use one certificate for the collection of multiple loads from several producers. Accredited Agent status is not automatic.
Authorisation is based on a demonstrated knowledge of, and compliance with, the permit and transport certificate system. Put your hazardous waste in the hands of the experts so you can rest easy knowing it will be handled safely, securely and in accordance with the optimum method of destruction. Not only can we help you to handle and dispose of hazardous waste in the proper fashion, but we can also show you the way forward in waste management. Atlas Waste can audit your waste output and detail waste management guidelines for you as a part of our comprehensive waste solution.
